Hardware

Hardware in the library/media center consists of: 1) administrative and online catalog (OPAC) computers and 2) administrative and OPAC printers; barcode scanners are also required. Administrative computers are used by library/media staff for cataloging, circulation, reports, inventory, and other administrative purposes while OPAC computers are used by students and teachers.

Online Catalog (OPAC) computers may be PCs or MACs.
  • Intel/PC or Macintosh computers capable of supporting current browser versions of Internet Explorer (preferred) or Netscape. Browser versions 5.0+ supported with versions 6.0+ recommended.

Administrative (librarian) computers must be PC.

  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP, service pack 2 installed
  • TPC/IP network (network card)
  • 100MB hard disk space available for application
  • 1.4+ Ghz Pentium IV
  • 1GB RAM (Set the virtual memory association to equal twice the amount of physical memory, at minimum)
  • 1024x768 or better screen resolution
  • Browser versions 5.0+ supported with versions 6.0+ recommended (Internet Explorer preferred)
  • J2SE Java Runtime Environment 5.0 (JRE 5, also called JRE 1.5 by Sun Microsystems)
  • File/folder permission for installation and updates:
    • Read, write, and modify permissions to the installation directory: C:\ProgramFiles\Sirsi
    • Ability to make registry changes
    • Read, write, and modify permissions to the Users directory: C:\Documents and Settings\Localusername\Sirsi

Printer requirements: The administrative printer must be a laser (not inkjet) printer and can be connected directly to the PC or a part of the local building/district network.

Please ensure that the following software is installed and properly configured on administrative computers:

Note: The Workflows client requires users to have administrative rights on the workstation to install/update the client. There will be periodic new releases of the java client that are independent of a server release. If users do not have administrative privileges, technology coordinators will have to install and update the client.
